My fiancé and I were engaged this past New Year’s Eve in New Orleans. We actually randomly met on New Year’s Eve fours year before our New Year’s Eve engagement. New Orleans is one of our favorite cities; we took many getaway trips there and fell in love in New Orleans.
For New Year’s this past year, we had planned a couple’s trip to New Orleans. We had spent the day with our friends and family in the French Quarter. The day consisted of a little Bourbon Street, a little casino action, the Oklahoma and Alabama Sugar Bowl Fan Fest, and a celebration toast back in the hotel before we went out to celebrate the New Year. Another couple on the trip with us became engaged a few days before the trip. As we celebrated their engagement, I was so envious! Little did I know that, I soon too would be engaged.
Later in the night, we attended a private Pat O’Brian’s New Year’s Eve party at a hotel overlooking the Mississippi river with our friends and family. The view of the river and city was amazing. The service, food, and drinks were all first class as well. Around 10 pm, our group gathered on the balcony of the hotel to enjoy the view. When we walked outside, I noticed the other group members begin to take out their cell phones. I asked “Oh. Are you guys going to take a picture of us?” To which the reply was “something like that.”
At that moment, my then boyfriend, Donald, stopped the party on the balcony, and said a few sweet lines. Next thing I know, he is getting down on one knee, and we were engaged. My heart stopped at that moment, and the partygoers cheered. The entire experience was, of course, very memorable. I am really looking forward to the next few months of finishing up our final wedding planning details.
