Houston’s Connection Emeka, a Geophysicist, met Chioma, an Epidemiologist, while visiting Houston. Emeka’s friend invited Chioma to dinner assuming they might “get along.” Though they did not seem to hit it off in the beginning, after a few months of casual meetings, game nights, and backyard BBQs, Emeka and Chioma bonded for life.
Chioma knew the day and time the proposal was going to happen. “I had picked out an outfit and a hairstyle, and I practiced my happy tears in the mirror for a week. Emeka and I were going to dinner with two of our closest friends, and he was going to propose during dessert.” In her mind, the plan was set. Emeka was one step ahead of her. On the day of the proposal he surprised her before dinner. His apartment was filled with candles, rose petals, and soft music. Emeka dropped to one knee and asked the love of his life, Chioma, to marry him.
The beautiful couple got married on March 1, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Westchase in Houston, TX. The reception followed at The Petroleum Club of Houston where guests enjoyed the lovely view of downtown. Chioma impressed in her BLUE by Enzoani gown. World Catering & Bakery made the unique, asymmetrical cake.
As the night progressed, Chioma and Emeka, both from Nigeria, changed into traditional Nigerian attire. Their guests wore elegant lace fabrics and traditional headties, giving a cultural essence to the event. The night was full of music, dancing, and the spraying of money, a Nigerian custom during special occasions symbolizing showering the couple with good fortune.
