Under the Rockets Red Glare
While the Rockets were making a run for the playoffs in 2005, Melissa and her best friend Blair went to a playoff party at church, and met Brent. “He looked at me and with one smile, he changed my world forever,” she says.
Work took both of these Texas A&M graduates to Oklahoma City. The proposal involved a walk along a lake, a rose, a lighthouse, gentle music from a nearby restaurant, Brent on one knee and a ring.
Here in Houston, the bride walked down the aisle in an Essense of Australia satin, sweetheart gown with lace-up corset. She added a sparkle detail to the side to make it one of a kind. She also wore a pearl and diamond family heirloom hairpin. Her great aunt wore this family gem when she met the Queen of England!
Currently, Melissa works as a child therapist and Brent is a drilling engineer. They reside in Cinco Ranch.
You can spend forever looking for the best deal. My advice when it comes to selecting a vendor is to get two or three referrals from either people who have had a good experience with their vendors, (who are in your price range), and/or if you have been to a wedding and have liked those vendors. At the end of the day, you know the work will be quality and you won’t have spent a ton of time and stress trying to find the “best deal.” Invitations: Make extra copies…. you will always miss someone. When selecting your photographer, see which photographers have been to your wedding and reception location. If they are regulars, you can trust they know what will work and they have a good idea of where the best locations are for photos. They can get every angle and will save you time trying to find good lighting and locations. This allows you and your husband more time with your guests.
Have eco-fetti tossed as you leave the reception. It dissolves with water and won’t stain your dress or cost you a lot of money. It comes in a variety of colors. Use a photo book instead of a traditional guestbook. I used one that I made on Mixbook with pictures of our engagement photos. Some guests left us a message and some just wrote their names. It is meaningful and can be put on display. Find a trunk show, wedding dresses are cheaper during a trunk show! Make sure you get a meal to go, the bride and groom never have time to eat.
