A Storybook Romance
Megan and Jake spent the morning getting ready at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Houston. Several of the jittery men, including the groom, needed instruction from usher, Jon Krug to tie their ties.
Megan and Jake boarded a trolley and rode to Discovery Green for a “first look.” This break from tradition moment gives the bride and groom time together before the ceremony, away from guests, wedding planners and worries. Many couples take their wedding portraits during this relaxing period. After taking it easy in the park, the soon to be Stephens headed back to the Rice Hotel where they met the bridal party for photographs.
The two-ring ceremony was held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church; reception at the Crystal Ballroom at the Historic Rice Hotel. Their first dance was to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.”
Who Made the Cake! created a butter raspberry flavored cake with raspberry filling and old fashioned butter cream frosting; the flowers on the cake matched the belt on the bride’s dress. The gown was an Enzoani from Ventura’s Bridal. Kelly Balfour of Eventology provided day-of coordination to make sure the event went off without a hitch.
A few DIY details:
Instead of a guestbook, guests “leafed” green thumbprints on a drawing of a tree and signed them. The bride also made “Bridesmaid Survival Kits” which included safety pins, earring backs, tissues, deodorant, breath mints, etc. Throughout the event, guests danced to tunes provided by DJU Productions. Megan and Jake made their get-away through the lobby of the Rice Hotel while friends and family tossed rose petals. The couple honeymooned in Maui, Hawaii.
