Lisbon, Portugal created a picture perfect backdrop for the over the top nuptials of two Houston doctors. Dr. Lucho Rossman and his bride, Dr. Jessica Sheets traveled the world, but settled upon Lisbon, a city they visited early in their relationship, as the city to share with family and close friends.
Once the richest city in the world, this port town is full of palatial grandness, cobble stone streets, and trendy restaurants. The landscape is similar to San Francisco, complete with hills, streetcars and its own version of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Heritage Av Liberdade Hotel on Avenida de Liberdade, set the tone for three days of fun and fellowship. This hip boutique hotel has old world style with modern flair. Guests were treated to a day trip to fairy tale city Sintra and private tour of Sintra National Palace. Sintra was where early, wealthy Lisbon residents had summer homes. Today, it’s a great place for a port tasting and touring castles. Which is exactly what the group did. On the way back to town, they drove along the coast and stopped to take pictures at Europe’s Western Most Point.
The rehearsal dinner was held at Sacramento Restaurant. The 66-person group walked ancient cobble stone roads to the modern restaurant in the old town and dined on traditional Portuguese dishes with modern twists.
Wedding day festivities started with cocktails in a plush 19th century palace classified as a National Monument: Pestana Palace. (This is where Madonna stays when she’s in town). Guests then walked from the French inspired salon, through the gardens to the atrium for the ceremony. The groom, groomsmen and Gordon Bethune, celebrant, waited as bridesmaids entered from the garden. Stunning in her Monique Lhuillier with cap lace sleeves and satin waist, Jessica’s brunette locks were gathered into a soft, side-swept up-do festooned with an ivory flower as she walked down the aisle. Once the wedding party was in place, the maid of honor wowed the crowd as she played guitar and crooned Michael Buble’s “Everything.”
Following the service, guests enjoyed drinks before retreating to the Pestana Palace Stables for a seated dinner, dessert reception and dancing. The couple honeymooned in Spain; they reside in Houston.
