Director of Catering at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, Lisa Bertnick found it hard to find time to plan her own wedding to Aaron Carruth, since her job is to help everyone else plan theirs.
Lisa Marie Bertnick and Aaron Wayne Carruth met when a mutual friend set them up on a blind date at a bar in Sugar Land. There was an immediate attraction and soon these two were sending out wedding invitations made by Save the Date with Valerie.
Since Lisa knows all the popular choices for Houston area weddings and already had a vision of what she wanted, planning her dream wedding was a little easier for her than most brides-to-be. Her ivory and black themed event was photographed by Evoke. The February 6, 2010 wedding took place at the Sweetwater Country Club and ensued a night of dancing and dinner not long after.
The colors chosen flowed through every aspect of the wedding. The cake, prepared by Cakes and Culinary Creations was topped with a black, rhinestone encrusted “C” and sat amongst ivory and black patterned candles. Custom linens from Linens by Lisa continued the pattern through the chairs, tablecloths and satin napkins.
Ice Occasions and Bright Star Productions wowed the guests with a monogrammed ice bar and lights on the dance floor. The mood was set by their DJ from Daulong’s Mobile Music.
For dinner, the couple chose a three-course meal, which included a first course trio made up of: arugula with sliced pears, candied walnuts, and Gorgonzola crumbles, paired with butternut squash bisque, and a crawfish corn fritter. The second course was pan-seared lemon sole with brown butter, toasted almonds and capers paired with herb risotto and asparagus. While the third course proved a little heartier with seared New York Strip, accompanied by smoked Gouda potato pave and patty pan squash.
The couple completed the wedding celebration by honeymooning in Napa Valley, California touring wineries. They also experienced the “best meal we’ve ever had!” at Chef Michael Chiarello’s Bottega.
Lisa has seen it all when it comes to Houston area weddings, and for her own, she made choices from some of the most popular Houston wedding specialists to make her day beautiful in her own way.
