Katie, a financial reporting analyst, first laid eyes on Clayton, a software sales rep, at church in Huntsville, Texas. She saw him every Sunday for years, but they never talked. The Sam Houston students ran into each other at a bar, where they finally spoke and exchanged numbers. Their first date was the following Sunday; church and dinner afterwards. They immediately hit it off and began dating.
Now living and working in Houston, they decided to take a road trip to Huntsville. They got Sonic drinks and walked as they did in college, reminiscing. When they got to the gazebo in the park, he got down on one knee and asked the grand question, “Will you marry me?” She excitedly said yes! Afterwards, they went to eat at the restaurant where they had their first date; her parents were there to help celebrate.
Katie envisioned her wedding being in her native Dallas area. Unfortunately, Clayton’s younger brother was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare genetic cancer, and began treatments in Houston at MDAnderson; they decided to have their wedding in Houston. Their spirits were further dampened when they lost several close relatives.
Determined not to be down, Katie made her way to the Bridal Extravaganza and found their venue- Butler’s Courtyard. “Having our wedding at Butler’s Courtyard was the best decision I made in the whole wedding process. With so much going on with our families and my parents not living here to help plan, they were so amazing throughout the entire process.” she said.
Katie wore a gown from the Jasmine Collection; cakes by Jula made their wonderful cake. They carry the memory of their lost loved ones in their wedding bands, Katie’s was her grandmother’s; Clayton’s his dad’s. After all the hardships they went through before their big day, they came off stronger than ever and enjoyed their honeymoon in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Make an informed decision, stick with it and go
on to the next decision. Also, make lists… tons of
lists! Scratch things off as you go so you see how
productive you are. This will also help ensure that
you don’t miss any important detail.
