Playing for Keeps
Jennifer was already smitten with Sean when their piano teacher chose them to be partners back in middle school. As fate would have it, they connected instantly. When the time came for Sean to propose, he knew he wanted to do something special. Jennifer and Sean had always loved playing Super Mario Bros. video games together and he wanted to incorporate this theme into his proposal. One day while they were at home playing video games, Jennifer came across a screen that asked, “Will you marry me?” She could hardly believe what she saw! Somehow, Sean had embedded his unforgettable proposal into their beloved Super Mario Bros. game. Jennifer loved how true his proposal was to the story of their lives together!
The couple was married in Houston, Texas at the River Oaks Garden Club. This unique garden venue, with its gorgeous flowers and blossoming gardens, was the perfect intimate setting. Jennifer took everyone’s breath away as she walked down the aisle in an exquisite, blush-tone Monique Lhuillier gown. For the reception, the couple chose to offer a dessert bar for their guests to enjoy, a nice change of pace from the traditional wedding cakes. A Fare Extraordinaire of Houston worked closely with the couple to create a custom menu for their special day. Jennifer’s sister, Jessica, designed the Save the Dates, invites, menus, and table numbers. Since the bride and groom did not have the traditional Chinese wedding, they wanted to incorporate a small part of their culture into the ceremony. They chose Taiwanese teas and pineapple cakes for unique wedding favors that added the perfect touch. Jennifer and Sean honeymooned in romantic Italy and then went south to the Maldives, a tropical archipelago in the Indian Ocean.

Don’t get caught up with having to do X,Y, and Z. We didn’t do a lot of the traditional things for a wedding—no bridesmaids/groomsmen, no vows, no first dance, no father/daughter dance, cake, etc. We really just treated it like a big party with our friends and family. If you can, hire a day-of-coordinator. She was a lifesaver for me. It was like being able to have two of me in different places at once.
