Amber Nelson, a Police officer, met Colby Ford, a Fire Fighter and Marine at work. They were both on hand at a traffic accident, but in the game of love there are no accidents.
Galveston’s Moody Gardens Hotel was selected as the location because Colby’s marine unit was stationed in Galveston and the couple has many fond island memories. she found her Allure Gown at marry Go round in Houston.
The beach-themed wedding cake was Pink Champagne, Mandrin Orange and Almond Amaretto flavored, with white chocolate starfish. but it was the groom’s cake that took center stage. “Colby loves to hunt, which is why I decided to do the deer cake,” says Amber. The cake was the head of a deer with a sign hanging around the neck which read “The hunt is over.”
Their daughter, Elodie, was the flower girl and very important to mom and dad’s big day. Instead of a unity candle, they had a sand ceremony: Colby had black sand, Amber had white sand, and their daughter used pink. When the preacher said, you may kiss the bride Elodie did not want to see her parents kiss. She yelled “tell me when it’s over,” and the crowd went wild. During the reception, the three sat at the head table. They enjoyed this time together as a family, away from the chaos of the evening.
Knock your socks off
“As my dad was walking me down the aisle, we paused and all the groomsmen, Colby, our pastor, and ring-bearer, lifted their pant legs and showed everyone the crazy socks they were wearing,” laughs Amber.
Stay calm and enjoy the wedding. If you are having a military wedding, black bridesmaid gowns work perfectly. “I did not choose to have wedding colors. With the military uniforms it would have been too much of a rainbow so my bridesmaids wore black and the groomsmen not in uniform wore black tuxes with cream. The inside decor was white and champagne. everything flowed nicely!”
